John and Amy Beyer were introduced to Dr. Patricia Elvir by fellow board member, Anna Dragone. Besides their wish to help children with autism, they were drawn by Dr. Elvir's desire to educate professionals about autism spectrum disorders. John and Amy hope to bring their experience of building a successful organization to The David Center.

In 1985, John placed an ad in the local PennySaver offering to move one piece (of furniture), or an entire household. Today, he is President of one of the largest privately owned moving and storage companies on Long Island. Men on the Move operates a 500 room self storage facility in Floral Park, and provides residential and commercial moving services throughout 48 states.

Amy graduated from SUNY at Albany with a BA in Psychology. In 1988, she left her position as Pension and Benefits Administrator for EAB to join John at Men on the Move. Besides holding the office of Secretary for The David Center, Amy also serves on the board of her local SEPTA and is a parent member for the CSE.

John and Amy met in high school, were married in 1987 and have two children, Lauren (11) and Gregory (9). Gregory, diagnosed with autism seven years ago, has been enrolled for three years in his local elementary school, with whom the Beyers have been fortunate to collaborate on building a successful inclusion program.
