Gary and Angela Schwartz met Dr. Pat Elvir through her pediatric practice after their first child was born in 1997. They have two children, Matthew, ten, and Rachel, six. When, after her first birthday, Rachel began showing signs of developmental delays, she underwent a diagnostic workup which ultimately led to a diagnosis of ASD. “Dr. Elvir was an instant source of support during the difficult time when we were trying to find appropriate treatment. When she told us about her plan to open a center to help other families in need, we immediately supported her. We have been members since the inception of The David Center and continue to believe in and support its mission.”

Angela and Gary are both physicians affiliated with Winthrop-University Hospital. She is a Board Certified Internist and he is a gastroenterologist. They hold teaching appointments at Stony Brook Medical School as clinical instructors of medicine. They have long supported fundraising events and programs to help children and families affected by autism and related disorders.

Rachel was successfully transitioned from an intensive ABA program and is now mainstreamed in her local elementary school. Her brother, Matthew, is her best teacher.
